I went to see Dr. Sarah today for my regular monthly visit.....baby is growing and getting bigger everyday! I gained 5 pounds since last month and feel fantastic. The baby's heartbeat sounded wonderful and strong. Still not a lot of movement, I feel the baby here and there at night (kind of) but should feel more in the next few weeks. I can't wait!! :)

Week 21

MOMMY & BABY THIS WEEK...(from BabyFit.com)

Mommy: You're gaining weight and your pregnancy is showing, so stand tall and be proud. You're going to be a Mom!

Baby: Your baby weighs over 10 ounces (.28 kg) and is slightly longer than 7 inches (17 cm), which is about the size of a large banana...but what a personality! The rapid growth phase has slowed, but organs and other body systems continue to mature. The swallowing reflex is in full swing and your baby will begin to "drink" amniotic fluid, which helps his/her digestive system to develop. Your baby's oil glands are also starting to produce a waxy substance known as the vernix caseosa, which soothes and protects his/her skin in the amniotic fluid. And the buds for permanent teeth are forming! No smile yet, but that'll happen sooner than you think!

**************************************
Brian and I are getting ready for the baby's room and started looking at baby furniture! We are just about ready to register too! I'm feeling really good, no baby movement yet (I think, I may have felt something but not sure), getting bigger every day, trying to stay active and eat healthy! Craving potatoes - especially french fries - all the time :) :)

Next doctor visit scheduled for Friday, 9/26. Will keep you posted. More updates and pictures to follow soon...

20 Week Ultrasound

Brian and I went to the doctor for our 20 Week ultrasound today. Everything went great. . . the baby was a little camera shy at times but we still got to see a lot. We saw the heartbeat fluttering, the hands moving around, the little feet, the legs stretched out one time, then the legs curled up over the head, him/her sucking their thumb, even what looked like a little wave "hello". . . sooooo cute! The heart rate was 164 which is perfect they said. They took a lot of measurements and everything is right on schedule. See our newest baby picture below : )

Week 19

Here is what's happening to baby (from BabyFit.com): Baby starts growing again, and you can feel it, with backaches and even some heartburn! Six inches (15 cm) in length and weighing over 7 ounces (.20 kg), your baby is still tiny. But remember, by the time you deliver, baby's weight will increase by about 15 times what it is now! Your baby's skin begins to develop a creamy, protective coating called vernix, but on sophisticated ultrasound, you will clearly see the network of developing blood vessels showing through baby's thin skin.

Here is what's happening to me (from BabyFit.com): Heartburn, backache, constipation, leg cramps, swelling of your feet and ankles...these are just some of the discomforts you may experience as baby grows. Dizziness is also common, often due to a drop in blood pressure, so be extra careful when rising from a bed or chair. You may also notice tiny bright red bumps, known as spider nevi, appearing on your body. Not to worry, they are just dilated blood vessels and will also be gone shortly after your deliver. Sometime during your second or third trimester, you may also develop melasma (also known as "pregnancy mask"). These brown spots of hyper-pigmentation (usually across cheeks and bridge of the nose) are related to raging hormones but are exacerbated by the sun. Most often it fades after delivery.
